31DC2014 - Day 30 - Inspired by a Tutorial - Fall Waterfall

30 September 2014

It's Day 30 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Tutorial! OMG! One more day!

I have been meaning to try a new technique that Sammy from The Nailasaurus came up with... the Waterfall nail art technique. She has created so many waterfall manicures with so many different colour combinations... it's beautiful! So you can check out the tutorial here and now you can see my version... a seasonal manicure perfect for fall.

31DC2014 - Day 29 - Inspired by the Supernatural - Unicorns

29 September 2014

It's Day 29 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by the Supernatural!

This prompt can be interpreted in so many ways and I chose the happier magical creatures... unicorns! And the perfect base for this simple mani is unicorn by piCture pOlish, a recent collaboration shade by Allie from Brit Nails. You can read about Allie's inspiration and process here.

31DC2014 - Day 28 - Inspired by a Flag - Brazil + BPS Review

28 September 2014

It's Day 28 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Flag!

I had some water decals from the Born Pretty Store which I got during the World Cup. At the time, I was really busy and didn't do much art work but they are perfect for today's prompt. I used the wavy flag decal on my ring finger and freehanded a black flag pole. I then painted the remainder of my nails in the colours of the flag.

31DC2014 - Day 27 - Inspired by Artwork - Painters

27 September 2014

It's Day 27 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by Artwork!

I could have created nail art inspired by some of the best artists out there... but this challenge is exhausting and I wanted to make it simple! I found the perfect stamping image... tools required to create beautiful artwork.

31DC2014 - Day 26 - Inspired by a Pattern - Damask Print

26 September 2014

It's Day 26 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Pattern!

I had an idea of creating a damask print in very traditional fabric type colours so I went with something I usually don't use... brown! But I love the elegance of it and it feels very season appropriate for fall.

31DC2014 - Day 25 - Inspired by Fashion - Michael Kors Pre SS14

It's Day 25 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by Fashion!

I don't know a lot about fashion but I decided to browse the Vogue website and picked a dress that inspired me and would easily translate into nail art. Here is what I came up with:

31DC2014 - Day 24 - Inspired by a Book - The Fault in Our Stars

25 September 2014

It's Day 24 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Book!

With the recent movie release, this book's cover has been super popular and I've already seen quite a few bloggers create nail art inspired by this book on Instagram. I went with the spirit of it considering that I did not have a stamp to create the newsprint background and I've never tried the method of transferring ink from newspaper.

31DC2014 - Day 23 - Inspired by a Movie - Minions

23 September 2014

It's Day 23 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Movie!

I watch a lot of TV... way more TV than movies but the minions from Despicable Me are so cute and I really wanted to do that for nail art. Although creating a minion on each nail would have been fun, I was searching on Instagram and came across @veanailart's Instagram account and I loved her version of minion nail art! Instead of just focusing on minions, there are accent nails with BA-NA-NA-S!

31DC2014 - Day 22 - Inspired by a Song - Firework by Katy Perry

22 September 2014

It's Day 22 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Song!

I had so many ideas but when it came down to it I couldn't think of any songs... so I went with one of my favourite songs, Firework by Katy Perry! I know it's not exactly fireworks on my nails... but it's a stylised version, which is good enough for me.

31DC2014 - Day 21 - Inspired by a Color - Turquoise Ombre

21 September 2014

It's Day 21 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Inspired by a Color!

Most bloggers interpret this by using a particular nail polish name and creating nail art that reflects it... but are you really surprised I used today's prompt to showcase a simple nail art with my favourite colour... Turquoise?! It's not all turquoise but it's a perfect ombre.

31DC2014 - Day 20 - Water Marble - Curves and Dots

20 September 2014

It's Day 20 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Water Marble!

My first time doing a water marble... YAY!!! I actually pulled it off... which I am super happy about even though it is kind of messy. But here it is...

31DC2014 - Day 19 - Galaxies - piCture pOlish Layers

19 September 2014

It's Day 19 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Galaxies!

Ever since I got my hands on the Limited Edition piCture pOlish collection, I knew it would be perfect for galaxy nail art. Since these polishes are best layered over a darker polish, I chose to layer it over a beautiful shade called darcy by piCture pOlish. But let's take a look at the nail art first...

31DC2014 - Day 18 - Half Moons - Fall Leopard

It's Day 18 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Half Moons!

I have seen this type of nail art many times before... so it is not original by any means. However, I love this combination of half moons and leopard print and in fall colours, which is perfect for this time of year. Oh and I also used 3 shades from the essie Fall 2014 Collection and that fits so perfectly with today's nail art!

31DC2014 - Day 17 - Glitter - Cleopatra in New York

18 September 2014

It's Day 17 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Glitter!

Today's post is definitely not nail art... it's a swatch and review of a gorgeous glitter polish. I had thought about adding some studs or some sort of nail art but after I applied this polish, I just had to show it off for what it is and not ruin it with adding nail art. I present to you... Cleopatra in New York by Deborah Lippmann!

31DC2014 - Day 16 - Geometric - Triangles

17 September 2014

It's Day 16 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Geometric! In the past, Day 16 used to be Tribal Print but the challenge has been updated by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails to be more culturally sensitive.

I think the use of any graphic shapes can definitely qualify to fit today's prompt. Initially I was going to add more triangles or do it in a different way but I liked how this turned out and decided not to add anything else. I also usually struggle with whether I like the matte or glossy versions and I think today the matte finish makes a bigger impact.

31DC2014 - Day 15 - Delicate Print - Pink Lace

16 September 2014

It's Day 15 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Delicate Print! Wow... I am halfway through this challenge!!! So I am one day behind but I hope to catch up the by the end of today or latest tomorrow.

Whenever I think about this prompt, I think soft and girly pinks and flowery intricate patterns... which I guess is perfect to practice my stamping skills! Although not executed perfectly (damn you top coat for smuding an otherwise perfect stamping job), I can definitely say I am improving.

31DC2014 - Day 14 - Flowers - Badass Roses

15 September 2014

It's Day 14 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Flowers!

I am not a very flowery person and I don't usually paint floral nails... because I am terrible it! In fact, I am not even happy with this nail art but I was too tired to retry it so I decided to post it.

I really love the juxtaposition of something hard versus soft and that is what I tried to achieve by painting girly "roses" on a very dark and badass background.

31DC2014 - Day 13 - Animal Print - Peacock Feathers

It's Day 13 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Animal Print!

I have always wanted to create peacock themed nails and I had the perfect water decals to create today's nail art! All I had to do was look for the perfect base colour to pair the feathers with... and this is what I came up with:

31DC2014 - Day 12 - Stripes - Mustang

12 September 2014

It's Day 12 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Stripes!

This is the perfect opportunity to create some nail art with the new OPI Mustang Collection (swatches and reviews here). I wanted to create the infamous stripes found on many Mustangs in one of the classic colours combinations... red and black!

31DC2014 - Day 11 - Polka Dots - Coca Cola Bubbles

It's Day 11 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Polka Dots! I'm still going strong this time around... in fact I stopped at Day 10 last year!

Instead of the usual normal polka dots which I have done many times before... I decided to try the gradient polka dots look. I thought this would be the perfect time to feature the recent OPI collaboration collection with Coca-Cola and make it look like fizzy bubbles of pop!

31DC2014 - Day 10 - Gradient Nails - Seashore

10 September 2014

It's Day 10 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Gradient Nails! This marks the completion of the first section of the challenge... colours!

For this prompt, I created a gradient with three colours to make it look like the seashore and added some seashell studs from the Born Pretty Store (you can get 10% off with my coupon code KVL91)

31DC2014 - Day 09 - Rainbow Nails - Pastel Stripes

9 September 2014

It's Day 09 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Rainbow Nails!

I have been trying to keep it simple... but this look took quite some time even though it looks simple! I used the entire Lime Crime Les Desserts D'Antoinette collection except for one polish... Milky Ways.

31DC2014 - Day 08 - Metallic Nails - Chrome

It's Day 08 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Metallic Nails!

I am super tired and it's late so I will keep this short and simple. This is the perfect opportunity to use Push and Shove by OPI... a chrome finish polish released earlier this year as part of the Gwen Stefani Collection. It is so BRIGHT and shiny... you truly have to try it out yourself to see its beauty. Here's my best attempt at capturing its chrome brightness:

31DC2014 - Day 07 - Black & White Nails - Distressed

8 September 2014

It's Day 07 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Black & White Nails!

I knew I wanted to incorporate grey into the black and white challenge and I had the perfect polish for it. At the same time, I have been wanting to try out the distressed look that I learnt from this Chalkboard Nails Tutorial and I thought it would look great in black white and shades of grey...

31DC2014 - Day 06 - Violet Nails - Ruffian

6 September 2014

It's Day 06 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Violet Nails.

Purple is usually a colour that doesn't look great against my skin tone... especially the lighter purples that I love in the bottles! To really highlight the colour prompt, I thought a simple ruffian would look great the darker outline would provide a barrier so that the lighter purple colour and my skin tone don't clash!

31DC2014 - Day 05 - Blue Nails - Angular French Tips

5 September 2014

It's Day 05 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Blue Nails... obviously my favourite!

So I usually have a little mental plan of what each day's nail art will look like and I have been so excited for today's prompt because I had a very specific idea and had picked out very specific colours to showcase today. And trust me... it is such an awesome idea BUT (yes, there's always a big but, eh?) it just didn't translate as well as I had expected. Don't you just HATE when that happens?!

So I sat around and tried on a few things and I was just so frustrated becasue it is my favourite colour and I couldn't come up with something I loved! Especially since my last year's attempt (click here) was so amaze-balls that it is one of my favourite nail art posts ever!

I then opened up some nail mail and I decided I was going to use one the new piCture pOlish collaboration shades... can you guess which one?

31DC2014 - Day 04 - Green Nails - Tropical Leaves

4 September 2014

It's Day 04 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Green Nails!

I really wanted to do some tropical-type nail art and all I kept picturing is a chartreuse green base and leafy goodness! I just bought a bunch of MoYou London stamping plates and I knew I'd find the perfect image in one of the Mother Nature plates.

The plan was to stamp all 5 fingers but I kept messing up my middle finger... which lead to an accent nail that looked odd on its own... which lead to TWO accent nails kept super simple with some dots!

31DC2014 - Day 03 - Yellow Nails - Colour Blocking

3 September 2014

It's Day 03 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Yellow Nails! Yellow is another color that I don't use often but it definitely a really fun colour we wear especially in the summer.

I know I have a challenging month ahead of me and wanted to keep the nail art simple for all the colour prompts... so I created a simple colour blocking effect.

31DC2014 - Day 02 - Orange Nails - Roar

2 September 2014

It's Day 02 of the 31 Day Challenge (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Orange Nails! I find that I don't use orange nail polish that often and I always struggle with this prompt.

I came up with an idea I liked but I didn't execute it perfectly. I am still posting it because it is already challenging to come up with nail for 31 days straight and I didn't have time to redo it.

Here are my Orange Nails inspired by the song Roar by Katy Perry...

31DC2014 - Day 01 - Red Nails - Rouge Louboutin (Swatch + Review)

1 September 2014

Its Day 01 of the 31 Day Challenge 2014 (31DC2014) and today's prompt is Red Nails! What better way to start off this challenge than with the nail polish representing the iconic Christian Louboutin soles originally inspired by red nail polish?! Confused?! Read below...

“The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to the nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago,” says Chrisitian Louboutin.

Ever since I saw the press release for the new Christian Louboutin nail polish in Rouge, I knew I had to have it! Yes, it is pricey but it is gorgeous and the bottle is truly a piece of art and luxury!

I created a very simple nail art that takes inspiration from the bottle shape and Pshiiit's review of this polish (click here). The simple black nail art mimics the shape of the long and pointed wand giving the bottle a heigh of 8 inches!
