Nail Polish Review - Essie Winter 2013 Collection - Shearling Darling

24 September 2013

*Polishes used in this post were provided to me as a PR sample*

Hey everyone! I am super excited about today's post!!! As you may have guessed by the post title, I have swatches of the NEW essie Winter 2013 Collection, which will be available in October 2013. Click here for more details on this collection and its inspiration.

Below is a collage of all 6 shades of this collection... I made the image a square to make it easier for all the pinners and instagrammers!

Overall Comments: FORMULA
The formula was PERFECT for ALL 6 shades! You could get away with 1 coat for some of the polishes, but I prefer to always apply 2 coats. I always start with a thin first coat and a heavier second. 5 out of the 6 polishes self-levelled beautifully and were super GLOSSY without topcoat! The only exception being toggle to the top, which had a gritty finish...perfectly normal for a glitter polish.

warm & toasty turtleneck: This wisteria pink angora is the epitome of snuggly seduction, but be advised: this pretty pullover is no pushover.

Colour: Grayish-Pink | Finish: Creme | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: No | Rating: 9/10

Application: The first coat was a little sheer but that is expected with a lighter colour. A second coat made sure it was opaque and the polish levelled out perfectly.

Comments: The colour is very unique in my collection. All my pinks are super bright or baby pinks. I don't like wearing lighter shades... especially light purpley pinks since they don't look that great on me. Oh and I also love brighter and bolder shades! But I can see myself wearing this cute creme to the office!

parka perfect: Charm. Etiquette. Discretion. You're a master with serious knit knack in this serenely shimmering cashmere gray.

Colour: Dusty Blue | Finish: Shimmer-creme | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: No | Rating: 9/10

Application: Like warm & toasty turtleneck, the first coat was a little sheer and the second coat made sure it was opaque.

Comments: This colour has the same subtle shimmer as 5 our of the 6 shades from essie's summer 2013 collection. You can only notice it in certain lighting, which is pretty cool! Considering how many blue polishes I own... this one is still unique to my collection!

sable collar: Baby, it's cold outside. Warm it up with lavish pearlescent cocoa plum that adds a touch of luxe to any look.

Colour: Cocoa Plum | Finish: Shimmer | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: No | Rating: 10/10

Application: This is one of the shades in this collection that could look opaque in 1 healthy coat.

Comments: This colour really did remind me of cocoa... It has a lot of depth!!! Ahhh it's so pretty! I'm not a fan of shimmers usually, but this is gorgeous! One of my personal favourites from this collection!

Here is a second picture showing you how pretty this shade is:

shearling darling: Silky smooth and buttery soft on the surface, this plush mahogany red has a deep, dark, heart that fires the imagination.

Colour: Burgundy | Finish: Creme | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: No | Rating: 9/10

Application: Although a darker colour, this definitely needs 2 coats! It has a crelly like formula which makes the first coat a sheer red. The second coat definitely adds the depth and opacity!

Comments: The collection's namesake! The first coat of this colour looked like I dipped my nails in blood... It's giving me ideas for Halloween nail art! A very classic burgundy for the winter... I absolutely adore it!

mind your mittens: Apres ski or after hours, this polished double diamond black teal expertly navigates the slopes and the scene in fine form.

Colour: Blackened Teal | Finish: Creme | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: No | Rating: 10/10

Application: This was the perfect creme formula I love from the essie brand! This is the other polish in this collection that could be applied opaque in one coat.

Comments: It's not black... it's not blue... it's not navy... it's a gorgeous dark dark dark teal! This is my absolute favourite from this collection... but then again I have a thing for the blue-y shades! I feel like a winter coat in this colour would be gorgeous!

toggle to the top: Shake, shimmy and shine your way to the height of fashion in this show-stopping sparkling crushed garnet.

Colour: Red Glitter | Finish: Glitter | # of Coats: 2 | Topcoat: Yes | Rating: 9/10

Application: This could possibly be applied opaque in one coat. However, the glitter is suspended in a red jelly-like base and the second coat gives it the depth that makes this shade so pretty! Oh and removal was surprisingly not too bad for a glitter... I guess it might have something to do with the tiny glitter pieces.

Comments: The only thing I could think of when wearing this polish is... Christmas! It is not in-your-face sparkly or glittery. It's classy and perfect for the holidays and parties!

Personal Favourites: parka perfect & sable collar

What do you think of the collection? Which ones will you be picking up this October?
